One out of two isn't bad

Brady is successfully NUK free.

He is not however potty trained. The worst part about it is that he wants to wear underwear. He loves watching his Elmo potty time video and wants to be like the kids on TV but for some reason he is terrified of the toilet. We have no idea why. He won't go in his potty chair either. He just doesn't get that if he wears undies he can't pee willy nilly. So every night we go through the battle of him wanting to wear underwear and swearing that he'll go pee pee in the potty and the next thing I know he's peeing in his undies. Granted he goes into the bathroom to pee so at least I'm not having to clean pee off the carpet but still... I want to just tell him no, no undies until he learns how to use the toilet but if I do that then how will he ever learn? I don't know what to do. Big fat F- for me.

FYI - We've tried a sticker chart, we've tried bribing him with candy, we've tried forcing him to go by making him sit on the toilet for minutes on end, we've tried books and videos (which he loves), and we've tried "going with him." Nothing works. (Oh, and he's not interested in sinking cheerios either.) I think we might just need to let up for a while. However, any advice is welcome.

Here is the little peepeehead sleeping.

And to top it all off, Jayda's developed a fondness for her nose.

YEAH!!!! See, you did it! Now to tackle the potty. My neighbor finally got her almost 3 year old daughter trained. I hear what works is to let them run around naked. I guess preferably if it can be outdoors (but not sure if that is feasible up there right now). Anyway, I have heard from others that being naked really helps them (somehow, don't ask how). And don't push it. You don't want it to be a miserable experience. Josiah took awhile to train too and once he was ready he was ready and didn't have any accidents (well, maybe a handful). So, do not fear- eventually the boy will use the potty!

LOL... it's funny, but it's snot. (snort.)

Working with kids in this age group for a little while and knowing that you did try a variety of things... maybe he's just not ready. I worked with some kids who were about 4 and their Mom's were really frustrated... but they were soooooo happy when their kids finally got it. Just a matter of time really. You've got the toughest part down. he totally understands the concept. it's just a huge change. He'll get there. :) you're doing a good job. just stick with it and it'll happen. I remember when my cousin adam (who is in college now - eek!) was afraid of the lion picture above the toilet. And his folks hung a cartoon character up instead and he focused on that instead of the toilet and that did the trick.

Luke took some getting used to the idea too but we actually potty trained him when we were on vacation at my father-in-laws house. We told him that Grandpa didn't want him to pee on his floor and that did the trick. He still does (At 6yr.s old now) have an accident once every blue moon but that's more because the boy is just too busy to use the bathroom and waits too long...from what I understand boys usually just plain take longer to decide they would rather use the bathroom than have wet pants!
